“A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens was one of my favorite Christmas tales as a kid. I used to read it every year or watch a Disney’s animated version of it. The lesson I got out of this story is that our past has determined who we are in the present, and our present determines the person we’ll become in the future. Ebenezer Scrooge was given the opportunity to overview his past, his present and have a glimpse of his future; it made him realize that the most important things in Life are the the people that share the journey with us every day.
I have to be honest with you: ‘Xmas is a very melancholic time for me, I wake up in the morning and it makes me cry. While everyone is out there celebrating holidays with their families, there’s a big void that reopens in my soul. I miss my parents, the ‘xmas lunch with my family, my grandma’s cooking and her sister’s Raviolis, our fights about politics around the table which would always end up with gleeful cheers, dances, games and films. I miss that sense of warmth that only a family and the people you love can give you. But then, I start thinking about all the friends and the people in my Life that have given me the same kind of love and heated up my heart again. They say friends are the family we choose and I agree with that. To me this is what ‘Xmas is all about: a moment to acknowledge and give some love to all the people that are important in our lives, for the real presents are them, not the wrapped boxes sitting under the tree.
So this year, in order to refill my void, dispel my sadness and transform it into a big smile, I’ve decided to accomplish my own trip across time, guided by the three ghosts of the past, the present and the future. Dear friends, allow me me to be your chaperon in my own Christmas Carol. I would like to introduce you to some incredible characters.
They have enriched my Life with memories and feelings, we have laughed and cried together, we have fought and made peace, we have traveled the world, we have witnessed births and deaths. Wow, what a journey! It feels like every time we have encountered there was a whole Life to Live. It is my wish to pay a tribute to these amazing human beings and thank them for walking into my Life and becoming part of my Family. They are the best gifts I’ve ever received, they are a piece of my heart, they have fueled my soul with emotions and I love them more than words can express.
My Xmas wish for you is to have a family and incredible friends like these ones and to keep creating never-ending memories together.
With much Love,
’Til the next one 😉
PS. There are so many friends whom I’ve shared incredible memories with. So please, don’t take it personal if you are not featured in this post, naming each person I’m grateful for would take me pages and days. Know that I do love you dearly and I cherish the time we’ve spent together, even if it was just for a short time on the path.
